Am I Such a Monster????

Why am I a monster in the eyes of the general public?
Why do I have such a terrible reputation?
Why are people afraid of me?
Why am I chosen to fight?
Why am I exploited?
Why am I a symbol of aggression and violence?
Why can I not just be loved??????????

Willie Nelson: Dog's Best Friend

Willie Nelson, an avid animal lover, has teamed up with the organization Best Friends Animal Society to make the above PSA on anti-dogfighting in Georgia. Although animal cruelty is a felony in the state of Georgia, dogfighting rings are still rampant and Georgia's laws are extremely weak regarding this disgusting activity. Thank you, Willie, for speaking out against dogfighting in our beautiful state! Hopefully dogfighting legislation will become much stricter in all 50 states.

The Story of a Dog Named Gypsy

If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men. ~St. Francis of Assisi

She was found on the side of a road, abandoned and dying from her wounds. The flesh was practically rotting off her face and her leg was severely infected. She was the obvious loser of a vicious dogfight and had been disposed of much the same as an empty beer bottle....discarded like trash....

A team of compassionate and dedicated veterinarians and technicians saved her life...treated her wounds...performed crucial surgery on her...comforted her...loved her... They named her Gypsy. Gypsy had probably never felt human hands stroke her or caress her lovingly. She had probably never received proper vet care. No human voice had ever soothed her troubled soul until after her horrible fate. This precious life was not wasted, however, for her will to survive against the odds made her strong in heart and spirit. Because she lay on the side of the road struggling to stay alive, an angel rescued her. Because she wagged her tail at the sound of a saviour's voice although she had suffered horrific cruelty at the hands of a monster, she touched the hearts of many. And through all the pain and torment of treatment and therapy, this special dog maintained her sweet nature. Cast away because she was a lover instead of a fighter, she in turn fought the greatest struggle of her life and prevailed over the deepest cruelty and death itself.

Gypsy the pit bull is testament to the will to survive and the power to forgive. If her story doesn't touch you, then I have nothing in common with you.

Michael Vick Takes Empathy Training at PETA

I'm going out of town this weekend and Michael Vick is pet-sitting for me! Glad he has found his new career niche.... Actually, that wouldn't happen in a bloody gazillion years unless I had it in writing that Mikey had been lobotomized. And even then, would a lobotomized person REALLY be a good pet-sitter? I mean....would said person remember to scoop the kitty litter and give daily insulin injections????
Anyway....enough of my A.D.D. rambling. According to PETA President Ingrid Newkirk, Michael Vick has taken an eight hour animal empathy course and even received a certificate of completion! Wow! That's the equivalent of my required annual "Civil Treatment for Employees" exam at my office. I usually fast-forward through most of the courses, take the assinine quizzes that an absolute moronic robot could pass, print my certificate, and TADA!!!!! I'm good to go for another year! Of course, I have never wet down and electrocuted another living creature, so I'm not really considered a threat to society. I guess eight hours of PETA compassion training has given Vick a gold star in the human race.
I sincerely hope he is fo' real and not desperately trying to clean up his image so that he MIGHT play football again. Maybe Mikey will be allowed to participate in one of those prison programs that allow inmates to groom poodles and train homeless puppies so that they have a better chance at adoption. You need all the rehabilitation you can possibly get, Mikey! A PETA piece of paper is nothing compared to what you need to realize the horror you put all those poor dogs through!

Waiting on an Angel...

Wonder why I hate dogfighting (and ALL animal fighting) so much? The above video made for a Humane Society of the United States competition reveals the brutality of dogfighting with some very candid photos. Would you want to be associated with someone who participates in this kind of barbarism? Please watch the vid even if the subject matter makes you feel uncomfortable. Hopefully material like this will reach thousands of people and shock them into action.

The End of an Era???

The end of the Michael Vick era is upon us...hopefully. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell made his decision ahead of Vick's appearance before the Honorable Henry Hudson on Monday. I respect Mr. Goodell and his decisions regarding the Vick situation so far; however, I hope that an indefinite ban from the NFL does not give Vick the opportunity to EVER PLAY AGAIN. I'm a bit worried about this because while the Falcons will take action to recoup $22 million from Vick, he will remain on the Atlanta roster. Unfortunately, this whole situation revolves around money more than what's right or wrong. I do seriously respect Nike for terminating its contract with Vick. Nike realizes the weight and severity of Vick's criminal behavior and how keeping the Vick endorsement would harm their corporate reputation. Now I can peel the duct tape off my swishes and proudly wear my running shoes once again.
I honestly feel that once Vick has served his time he has the right to make a living for himself just like anyone else. However, I hope he is NEVER allowed the opportunity to have an occupation that places him in the public eye again. Of course, Americans have a short memory and Vick will probably end up on "Dancing With the Stars" or some tripe like that in a few years...In the meantime, I'm very curious about what Monday will bring.

SILK admits he has convicted Vick, but he also wants to have an open mind.

OK. I admit it. I have already convicted Vick of the crime he is accused of. Why? I never liked him in the first place so i want to see him in jail. So, i am guilty of what the NAACP and Al Sharpton has asked us not to do. So, i am going to wait until Vick has his day in court until I pass anymore judgement on him. However, let's say this was a white quarterback in the NFL that was accused of the same thing as Vick. Can anyone name a group, NAACP, or minister, Sharpton and two on Fox tonight, that would come out and support him? I say you would not be able to name a group or minister. Why? Please let me know what you think and if i am wrong.

Bye-bye, Mikey!

Well, Ron Mexico, apparently you know a little more about the shenanigans at your Virginia "estate" than you originally stated, hmmm?. Sure, your generosity was abused by your friends and family. Those bastards! Taking over your property to whip up a little illegal cottage industry while you were away playing Santa Claus for orphans & cleaning kennels at the Atlanta Humane Society...how dare they conduct such an operation as BRUTAL and INHUMANE as dogfighting under your philanthropic & saintly nose? Bullshit! Tony Taylor outed you with his plea today, you lying moron! Do you really think the public is that stupid, Mikey??? I hope the courts take you down along with every pathetic thug and paid-off official that has ever been associated with Bad Newz Kennels.

BTW...I heard that only Converse will sponsor you now. They will soon (I think November 26 is the release date?) present the new line of "Con-VICKS"...in an appropriate shade of prison jumpsuit orange. BA-DUM-BUM-BUM...Cheesy, I know...

(No offense or disrespect meant to Converse, of course...)

Another Victory!!!

Nike has suspended its contract with Vick, Reebok has pulled the ol' #7 jersey from stores, and we won't see any more Vick trading cards from Donruss (whose owner brings her 5 Labs to work every day). Thanks to the enormous campaign that the Humane Society of the United States has launched, Michael Vick is no longer the spoiled & untouchable athlete he once was. Just like SILK said in his post, I don't believe for one second that Vick is not guilty. Your name doesn't get mentioned 50 times in a 19 page federal indicment unless the feds have a strong case. Now Vick has been named as a "person of interest" in an Arizona dogfighting investigation. I'll bet that when all the information surrounding this case becomes public, Vick will be tied to dogfighting rings in several states & possibly other countries (Mexico is a hotbed for dogfighting. Mexico...Ron Mexico...how fitting!)

Thank you, NIKE, REEBOK & DONRUSS for recognizing the severity of this situation!

Fighting Dogs???

I had to post this picture of Akira and Achilles because I have spoken so much about them since the Michael Vick situation has unfolded. This photo was taken in our basement during a late fall storm. The little couple huddled together for security and affection as I snapped this pic. (Achilles is wearing an invisible fence training collar, by the way, a device he no longer needs because he has learned the boundaries of our yard.)

These "poopies" are the prime example of how wonderful the American Pit Bull Terrier Breed is.... The most amazing quality this duo possesses is their constant wish to please Super D & me as well as their desire for constant affection. Needless to say, I could easily pet the hair off Akira & Achilles!

I will also post a photo of Winston soon...when the time is right. I cannot bring myself to look at his photos right now...

Yours truly,

Bagheera

No Pre-Season for Vick!

The Atlanta Falcons' big guns held a press conference today. I hope with all my heart that Arthur Blank continues to do the right thing in this unfolding situation. I am following this case to the detail, and I welcome comments/opinions/debate. More to come...
BTW, the above Pit Bull was rescued from Vick's Virginia property. This dog is one of the lucky survivors. I have seen photos of the surviving dogs in their worst shape, and they are shocking and disgusting. God bless all the animal victims related to this case and may justice be served swiftly and properly.

***This post is in honor of Winston Churchill Chandler and ALL victims of animal cruelty & neglect.

Dear NFL Commissioner Goodell...

If you are as disgusted as I am about the Michael Vick situation, please make your opinion known through the following petition for the Humane Society of the United States. The NFL MUST take action in this situation or the image of every respectable player in the league is at stake. Of course, the message here is to convey that any form of animal cruelty is not acceptable in our society! And for those of you who may argue that this is only about animal abuse and not abuse toward humans, you are wrong! Statistics prove that most serial killers and sex offenders began their criminal history by torturing and killing animals first. The Columbine killers tortured animals before they graduated to human prey. Animal fighting is NO EXCEPTION! Please take a brief moment to sign & send this petition: suspendMichaelVick.

Thank you!!!
